: I guess other than get smaller profile tires lol! Damn...went out for some late night driving tonight to test out the front sway bar on the stiffest setting. Until now I had it on the softer one to avoid anymore understeer than I already had. But the car feels great overall and I can still control it. However, I'm at the damn limit of my tires...I can feel when I make a turn HARD or snap the wheel back and forth, that the sidewalls are flexing and the car is slowing down. This sucks! I have those meaty 235/40/17's up front (as if the 275/45/17's in the back arean't already oversized as well). Major sidewall... : I notice that in TT's (like Ste?my's) with the electronic suspension on sport mode, he can rock the car back and forth and it doesn't dip at ALL. Now, I know the stock suspension is GREAT but his car (and a few TT's I've been in) has stock rims and tires...but it's night and day. : Funny thing is, stock TT sidewall (same as NA) is 4.43" and my setup is 3.70...so what gives? Perhaps the tires I have (Potenza RE730s) could be the culprit? Any thoughts? It could be subjective differences in the way the car and not the way the car handles. If you want to see how much flex you are getting you would have to use a pyrometer to measure the temperatures across the tire.
When my Miata was bone stock, the car felt tight like a stock TT. For such a small car, the Mazda engineers gave it a fairly rough ride by normal people standards (people not like me who don't like rock hard suspension :) With a full suspension setup on it now, it definately has a higher limit on handling but getting there feels more scary. With the stock suspension and tires/wheels, I could slowly feel the car lose adhesion at the limit. With the suspension mods and a +2 wheel/tire upgrade, the car doesn't slowly break away.. it just breaks at the last moment. This is attributed to the bigger sway bars and delrin bushings (most likely). Is Steve running bigger/thicker sway bars? Anyway, I don't think it's your sidewalls flexing too much. IF they were Dunlops I might say otherwise :)
